The Plan Mk2
With the events in Syria we had to review our plan to drive North-South (we were on the point of departing when we learnt that there were air attacks on vehicles around some of the towns that we would have had to pass). We explored shipping the truck across the Med into Alexandria, but the only viable option got cancelled due to the troubles in both Syria and Egypt. As a result we have decided to "go the other way" - ie ship the truck to South Africa and come North. There are various advantages and disadvantages of this, but it seems to be the only really viable solution at the moment. When we finally get to the Syrian border if everything has calmed down then we will continue, otherwise we can always turn left and ship out of Haifa.
The name of the website is now fairly redundant as the new route will take us from Sudan across into Saudi for a run up into Jordan. Maybe it should have been "don't go anywhere near Cairo"? Oh well. I'll get round to changing the map in a minute.....

The Plan Mk58!
After 5 years of coming and going we seem to have moved away from our original plan somewhat -we've come to the conclusion that what we really enjoy is the wildlife. North of Kenya this sort of runs out a bit - plus up here the costs of getting into the parks can be extortionate (one day in the Serengetti costs us what 2 years of South Park access would cost using their wild card system - or 5 about 5 weeks of Zim parks).
