Friday 19th
July
A “sorting out” day. We got prices for
various activities from the lodge, then went into town and trailed around some
travel agents and small airlines to get prices for scenic flights and
possibilities for late deals for fly-in lodges in the Delta. We chose two nights
at PomPom Camp, inclusive of return flights, game drives, mokoro trip, food and
drink, which cost a painful arm and leg each, but we reasoned that this is the
place we have both been wanting to visit for years and years, so we didn’t want
to miss out. Lunch in town, which was a mistake, as I came down with a tummy bug
in the night (still not right at time of writing six days later). Back at
Thamalakane we got talking to other campers and spent time admiring their
various vehicles. We got down to the bar/waterfront later in the afternoon and
sat chatting with Tom and Malyosia from Oxford, while enjoying the birdlife. At
one point, three ground hornbill practically blocked out the light (slight
exaggeration) as they flew over, landing on the opposite bank.
