It's been a while since I last posted anything, the truck is all but finished - the interior is complete, the cab seating and aircon is complete, an awning has been fitted, the rear suspension has been uprated, new tyres fitted etc etc.
I'm coming towards the end of a 3 month contract which has topped up our funds, Sue has been seeing her family and we are slowly sorting out the various bits of paperwork needed.
The current intention is to get the truck onto a ship for Durban during April and we'll fly out and meet it at the port. The shipping takes around 3 weeks so we'll have time in England to sort out the last bits as the truck makes its way South.
I had an interesting online conversation with another Unimog camper builder - Iain in Australia - his experience of timescales so far matches ours - projects like these don't happen overnight - and his frustrations with people not comprehending how long things take match ours ("surely you must be ready by now" has become a tiring phrase........).
Oh - and just to confirm - the truck will never "be finished" - it's an ongoing project - so many things can always be improved or added to or removed, or simply replaced that this type of project is really like painting the Forth Bridge!
