Well yesterday WAS Friday the 13th. I ended up in hospital - A&E to be precise - thinking that I was going to need stitches in my head after having ripped a nasty gash in the top of it on the underside of the truck while changing the front differential oil.
Lessons learnt:
- the staff at the Lister hospital A&E couldn't have been nicer - in spite of a huge queue the triage nurse cleaned the wound and glued (yes glued) me back together. Friday night in A&E isn't pleasant - she deserves a medal, all she got was a box of chocolates to keep her going.
- whilst under the truck I must wear a hat to protect my head - this is the worst of a series of head-bangings! We can't be doing this in Africa - in fact I really should be wearing some kind of eye protection (following my last visit to A&E some time ago to have a piece of swarf removed from my eye......).
- don't rush jobs - that's when things go wrong.
Who bets that I'll forget all this within the next week?!
Oils all done by the way.
Steve (my bro), Dick and Rocket all came up this morning to see the truck in its "final state" (sans winch still). Good to see you all.
I trial-fitted the winch a couple of days ago with the help of Tony from Weston who in spite of not being the largest person in the world demonstrated his ability to lift HEAVY objects. It looks like the winch will fit nicely - just a little bit of work to do on the plate before the final fitting.
