Quite a succesful day in Rundu despite what we thought yesterday - we went to Cymot (a sort of Halfords/Midas car parts store) for some bits and asked where we could get some new electrical cables for the winch made, they suggested a garage over the road, they suggested the Mercedes truck dealer out of town, they suggested we get the parts from Cymot..... Cymot didn't have the parts, but this time we were talking to what appeared to be the manager - he called a freind and suggested we go and see him, which we did - Jannie at Cool-Tech - he's getting the terminals for tomorrow and will make the cables. we went back to the Merc place to get a small bracket for the master switch made - Edward is making it for us after we drew the dimensions on a piece of metal he bent into shape in front of us. Yesterday we had spotted a small shop near the Merc place with a "Mobil" sign outside, as this is the maker of the special synthetic oil we've been using in the axles, we called in to see if they had any. The lady there made a phone call to Windhoek - yes they have it, it can be here tomorrow - and it's cheaper than in UK. I had given up finding this oil or anything similar and was almost ready to drain the axles totally to put some ordinary mineral oil in (I've been looking for something since South Africa), so this was a big surprise. I've had a text tonight confirming that it should be here by tomorrow at 9am!
By this time it was getting hot, so we came back to the shade on the campsite, had lunch and did some more work around the truck - Sue has started cleaning the inside - Namibian dust is fine and although there's not a lot getting in, it still finds it's way in somehow, so all the draws and cupboards are going to be emptied and cleaned, at the same time we're going to get rid of things that we obviously aren't going to need to make some more space. Basically we're doing a spring clean.
This evening we spent an enjoyable hour on the lodge deck overlooking the river and Angola having a drink - Sue couldn't have her G&T as apparently there's no tonic available anywhere in Namibia at the moment! Time to go
