Up early in the morning and off back down the sand roads to Maun. A pretty uneventful journey - some giraffe and a few birds on the way. The highlight was spotting a tiny owl sitting in a bush next to the track - a Pearl Spotted Owl which has "eyes" on the back of its head (as well as on the front!).
Back in Maun we had decided to try another campsite - one that was supposedly connected with a lodge on the river Boteti where we had decided that we'd like to camp in the next few days. When we arrived the welcome was slightly strange, the price was cheap, they wanted payment "up front" and the staff didn't seem overly interested - the warning signs were there but we ignored them......
It turned out that they were no longer connected with the Boteti lodge - and after a shopping trip into town we made the decision to cut our losses and return to Thamalakane - it was no great loss financially, just a lesson again to trust our instincts!
