Over the next few days we relaxed - to the point that we were at times just watching the tide come in, and go out.....very peaceful living!
It rained heavily during the first night - but we slept through it - for 11 hours! The campsite staff took a tent down close to us - suddenly they all took a step back and picked up sticks. A short while later they were hilding up a large dead cobra that had been living somewhere in the structure! We chatted with some South Africans who have just come up via Mozambique from Cape Town in 5 weeks! As usual with South Africans we were invited to visit - there's something so welcoming about them.
We've cancelled cooking - we're feeling too lazy, it's too hot and the food in the restaurant is good and cheap.
The pool area is good for lounging, cooling off, lounging, having a drink, lounging...get the picture?! We've taken a few walks on the beach - heading north there are some mangroves with a few birds, south there's a small village with tiny shops for things like tomatoes, sugar etc. Next door is another lodge who specialise in pizzas - and do a good coffee/ice cream too! The locals are the exact opposite to those at Diani Beach - apart from greeting you on the beach, they all seem to ignore the tourists, almost as if they're puzzled by us!
We did meet a couple of women walking back down the beach the same way as us - Sue had a look in the large buckets they were carrying - full of tiny transparent shrimp.
Sue has been collecting shells on the beach - she has to be careful as there are not only "normal" crabs, but also a lot of hermit crabls living in shells - she's had a bit of a fright a couple of times when a claw extended froma shell that she was holding! One night it seemed as if every hermit crab on the beach had come ashore to party - they were crawling everywhere in the dark!
