Caught up with a few domestic bits and then tried the bird walk from the campsite. Saw a few but not many. Continued to the lodge where we met Mark, Sir Stewart Gore-Brown’s grandson, who owns Kapishya. Had a good chat with him about birds onsite and about storage in Lusaka. He knows the German butcher that we want to find (because 5 years ago we were told that he does storage).
We had a nice long soak in the pool at the hot springs. No-one else is staying here apart from some relatives of Mark. The pool was so pretty, with dappled sunlight falling through the trees and the water reflecting a lovely blue-green colour. The hot water bubbled up in various places and we sat half in, half out and gently relaxed. We tried a bit of a walk later but couldn’t be bothered to go far. Did a bit more birding and saw a black-backed barbet, which is a new one for me.
At 5.50pm we closed the door against the insects. Then at 6.15 the noisiest possible insect started up on a tree just by the truck, and a rival one close by. It was like an electronic alarm buzzer. Ghastly! We ate a simple supper by a tiny reading light, then we each read our e-readers until a few moths became a nuisance. Lights out at 7pm again. Luckily the very noisy insects stopped before 9pm so we did get some sleep.
